Pornography depicting a number of previously banned sex acts has been made legal in England after a review of obscenity laws. Essentially, sex acts that are not illegal in another context can now be shown in pornography <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Certain types\nof violent porn are now permitted so long as the sex acts are consensual\n(focusing on \u2018full and freely exercised consent\u2019,) do not cause serious harm to\nparticipants, are not \u2018inextricably linked with other criminality\u2019 and are not\nlikely to be viewed by anyone under the age of 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Obscenity lawyer Myles Jackman, who has campaigned for these changes for a number of years, told us that the change had wider implications for the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said:\n\u201cIt is a very impressive that they\u2019ve introduced the idea of full and freely\nexercised consent in the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEven for\npeople with no interest in pornography this is very important for consent and\nbodily autonomy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activist\nand queer porn filmmaker Pandora Blake, who also campaigned to have the ban on\nthe depiction of certain sex acts overturned, called the news a \u2018welcome\nimprovement\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
